  1. Thanks David (and Myrna). These photos and the accompanying narrative have inspired me to look further than the Hopkins river mouth to sea, the whales, the walks and the comfort of familiar residences. Pleased to see you both continuing to enjoy life. HNY. Denise.

  2. Lots of memories of the 1950s. Stuffing abundant hair into rubber bathing caps. Riding bikes everywhere, no helmets but pretty coloured skirt guards and foot brakes. First encounters with timelapse photography when Dad introduced a film on Sunday evenings occasionally instead of a sermon – we’d already had one in the morning. And so on. A great parsonage next to the church in your picture with chook run out the back and a palm in the middle of the front lawn, but this was demolished years ago. Meredith

  3. Did you visit FJs? I wonder what has happened there since the company closed? There is also some sort of old time village and of course, the railway station.

    • We walked past FJs and I was going to include a pic of the hmm what is it exactly, universe on a tripod, without which The Bool would be so much poorer. Sir Fletcher Jones is warmly acknowledged in the environs of the art gallery and just how Warrnambool is he really. Socialist, communitarian, solid as a rock, committed to his fellow man and woman and made a very fine trouser, one pair of which I still have. The old days when Australians made things. The factory is now a market with several dozen stalls (?bigger than that). The old time village is the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. We’ve been there but not for a while. Seems quite well patronised. The railway station is in excellent working order, and I know this is dear to your heart. One of the best and certainly cheapest ways to get to The Bool is by train.

  4. Great info David. We have been planning a return trip to Warnambool in the next little while andyou have have given me added impetus. I had never thought much about the lanes. so now your blog will serve as my guidebook. Always love reading your writings.

  5. Love your work as always and also inspired me to go again soon. Maybe you are ready for Portland, Bridgewater Bay and the Great South West Walk…or did I miss that post? Hard to keep up with you two!
